I Never Dreamed About Success. I Worked For It.

Working for success as an author means different things to different people.

For me, it means sitting down to write every day so, should inspiration decide to show up, it finds me already working.

My inspiration can just hop on the success train and help me along.

But I must first get on that train and start it moving forward. That’s the trick. I must start the work first in order for inspiration to show up.

The best scene I ever wrote only came into being after a full day of procrastination where I finally – at 10:00pm – gave in, sat down at my computer and typed these awe-inspiring words.

“I have no clue what this scene is about or why it requires a dead body on the ground.”

And I only pounded out those petulant words because I was angry at myself for wasting an entire day instead of getting down to work.

It was ridiculous – as in “greatly deserving of ridicule.”

Yet once my fingers hit the keyboard and they started to play, an amazing scene unfolded before my eyes.

But none of it could happen unless I first sat down at the keyboard to type.

As Estée Lauder so wisely says, I had to work for it.

Odds are, that’s true for you too.

So, do yourself a favor… don’t fritter away your days like I did in the scene described above. Just sit down, place your fingers on your keyboard, and allow the magic to happen.

It’s a far easier way, I assure you!
