You need three things to become a successful novelist: talent, luck and discipline. Discipline is the one element of those three things that you can control…

-Michael Chabon

You were born with some level of writing talent, but it’s your job to hone that talent into a mighty skill so your words have impact.

Diligence, it’s been said, is the mother of good luck. Luck is largely the result of your work ethic. “Bad” luck is largely the excuse given by those too lazy to do the work required to achieve their dreams.

Discipline is entirely under your control.

With greater self-discipline comes more good fortune and greater skills.

When you schedule your writing sessions, keep those appointments with yourself and do the work you committed to doing during those appointments, your finished and published book is inevitable.

I love making my book (and my success) inevitable, and it all begins with being diligent and applying integrity to your life – doing what you said you would do, when you said you would do it, whether you feel like it or not.

Is your success scheduled on your calendar?

If not, why not?
