Your intuition knows what to write so get out of the way.

-Ray Bradbury

Getting out of our own way can be our biggest challenge while writing our first draft.

Our tendency is to second-guess every line we write, instead of just allowing ourselves to enter that magical flow state where the words pour out of us effortlessly.

You probably have a pretty good idea of what your book is about, even if you don’t have a completed Roadmap for Author Success, so just start writing.

Your intuition will guide your words as you work through your first draft.

Remember, a first draft is where you tell yourself the story, so don’t get caught up in perfectionism and thinking every word must be “just the right word”.

Speed is your friend, so get your first draft out of your head and onto the page as fast as you can. Share on X

This will help you stay in that magical flow state with your intuition guiding you.  This is, for me, where all the fun of writing lives, specifically because I don’t need to care about making it perfect.

Whether you believe it or not, your subconscious already knows what you’re going to write. Your job, especially in this first draft phase, is to allow it – to get out of the way.
